I am a teacher, but there is much more to me than that! I have two fantastic children named Caleb and Alyssa. They are in 11th grade and 9th grade respectively. Both of them attended Mint Hill Middle School before heading off to high school. In addition to being a mother, I am also a member of the United States Air Force Reserve. I began this adventure "late in life," relatively speaking. At the age of 33, I went through Basic Training and Tech School where I graduated both with honors and managed to procure the title of "Top Female in Physical Training." My involvement in the Air Force has, and continues to make me a stronger person, both mentally and physically. In 2013-2014 I completed a 6 month deployment to Afghanistan. This past year (January - August), I deployed to Kuwait for 6 months. I count it an honor and privilege to have served my country in this way, but I am SO happy to be back home in time for the new school year!
As for my life as a teacher? I graduated from Florida Southern College in Lakeland, FL in 1998. I double majored in Primary/Elementary Education K-6 and Specific Learning Disabilities K-12. I started my career as a teacher in the Tampa area public school system as a 4th grade Language Arts and Social Studies teacher. My second year teaching followed a move to Charlotte and I began a long relationship with Hickory Grove Baptist Christian School. I taught 3rd grade that year and then taught a variety of grades and subjects part-time for several years while my children were little. This gave me so many opportunities to grow as a teacher. When my children started school, I stretched myself even further and began teaching 7th grade English back at Hickory Grove. I did this for 4 years before enlisting in the military and taking a year to complete my training. I then taught 5th grade at Cotswold Elementary for three years. I was so excited to return to teaching Middle School English Language Arts in 2014, and am thrilled to continue at MHMS this year. I am blessed to fulfill my calling as a teacher at such a wonderful school!
